Toronto, ON (June 23, 2017) – Tony Tarleton and Mike Denney announce the re-launch of Acronym Records today, anchoring themselves as the latest full service record label imprint in Canada with a global focus. With roots in Toronto, day to day operations of Acronym Records will be led by music executive Tony Tarleton, who brings a multitude of expertise, creativity and knowledge in both artist and label services in addition to his record business acumen, passion and staunch ability to grow new business around the world.
“I have been lucky enough to be a honourary member of Mike Denney’s MDM ‘Road Family’ for a few years,” shares Tarleton. To officially join his incredibly vibrant team at this point in my career, is exactly where I want to be! Acronym Records will undeniably reflect MDM’s core values of true artist development and commitment. I just hope Mike knows what he’s in for!“
As a dynamic music professional for close to 30 years, Tarleton’s career is the combination of expertise as a leading figure in the music business fueled by a love of music, creativity, passion for developing artists, nurturing relationships and continually altering how business is done. He has held various positions in the music industry at both independent and major record labels, including Universal Music Canada, EMI Music Canada and most recently Cadence Music Group. For the past 15 years, Tarleton has worked side by side with many of the world’s leading independent labels and is a steadfast supporter of the indie community both in Canada and around the world. Additionally, Tarleton served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) from 2013-2016 and currently sits on the Advisory Board for MusicOntario.
Southern Saskatchewan native and indie rock/alt-country artist Megan Nash is the first signing under Tarleton’s re-focused vision for Acronym Records. With songs that are both universal and individual, Nash tells stories of love and loss; worry and hope, all through the eyes of a young woman growing up and living in Saskatchewan. Drawing comparisons to such giants as Neko Case and Stevie Nicks, Nash has garnered nationwide attention from many who say, “Nash has a powerful voice and an authoritative style – she’s a singer with much to say.” (CBC q Host Tom Power).
“For people who know me, it’s all about an artist’s voice that really hooks me,” says Tarleton “When I saw Megan live for the first time, her voice hit me square in the head and the heart and I knew I had to work with her. And, when she sent me an early version of Bad Poetry, there was no turning back. There are only so many times in one’s career when the music and the artist completely take you over and this was one of them. To be able to work with her at this point, when she is at such an amazing creative space in her career, is a gift.“
“I am so excited to have signed with Acronym Records,” shares Nash. “This past year has seen much collaboration for me. Musically, I started working with the Regina based band, ‘Bears in Hazenmore’. They started performing with me as my back up band and within a year of playing together we recorded a full length record in Regina at Soul Sound Studio. I am very excited for people to hear this new record. I am so grateful for this opportunity with Acronym Records and feel very blessed to be a part of their family.”
Nash’s first single with Acronym Records “Bad Poetry” is available everywhere today. Stream or download the track here. Fans and the music industry can expect a full length release from Nash this fall. For more information about Nash and the latest tour dates visit www.megannash.ca.
